No Bear Found In Radnor, Ithan Elementary Still On Lockdown, Family Night Postponed
Police, Game Commission officials searched nearby woods for bear and found nothing. School remains in lockdown for student and staff safety.

Ithan Elementary School in Radnor was placed on lockdown at about 10 a.m. after a bear was reported in the area, according to the school's
website.
At about 12:25 p.m., the school announced on its website that Radnor police and Pennsylvania Game Commission Officials searched the woods near the school and did not find the bear, though the school is enforcing the lockdown for the remainder of the day. However, Philly.com is reporting a Radnor police officer was charged by the bear, causing him to abandon his motorcycle and flee to the school on foot.
According to the website, Radnor Township School District Security will assist with student dismissal today and will supervise the are where the bear was seen tomorrow. Radnor police will also supervise the area tomorrow to "provide and extra layer of security."

The Back to School Family Picnic planned for this evening has been postponed until tomorrow evening, a school representative said. The website also said police are shutting down two pathways leading to the woods for 24 hours.
According to the school, police requested the school be placed on lockdown, which took effect at 9:50 a.m. The school calls the lockdown "an abundance of caution."

The bear was reported to be seen in the woods near the school's grounds, causing a "Level 1 Lockdown," which entails securing all exterior doors while keeping students and staff safe inside, according to the school.
Radnor police alerted citizens yesterday of a reported bear sighting that occurred Sept. 10 on Round Hill Road in Radnor, citing a growing bear population in the state for increased bear encounters.
