Wednesday in Wayne: 'Betsy Ross: The Making of a Myth'

The presentation is a thought-provoking and entertaining examination of one of America's most well-known historical figures.

All are invited to Wayne Senior Center on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 10 a.m. for a free MindMatters presentation titled “Betsy Ross: The Making of the Myth.” The hour-long video presentation will be provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging and features Charles Hardy, Ph.D., a professor of history at West Chester University. The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session where viewers can email questions to Prof. Hardy for real-time discussion.

The presentation is a thought-provoking and entertaining examination of one of America’s most well-known historical figures. Although Betsy Ross is widely celebrated for creating the first U.S. flag, her story entered the public record 100 years after it supposedly happened and is based largely on stories passed down through generations of Ross’ own family. Prof. Hardy’s in-depth presentation examines how and why this story originated and how it has evolved.

The Wayne Senior Center is located at 108 Station Road in Wayne, just across from the Wayne Train Station. For more information, call Marcia at 610-688-6246.
