ADULT FALL CULINARY CLASSES AT

Open Kitchen
Wednesday, Oct. 19, 10 am to 12:30 pm, $90
Here’s your chance to ask chef John Blanchet all your culinary questions! John will teach basic culinary techniques and skills while addressing your personal kitchen challenges. Bring your questions to class or email them ahead of time. John is a busy personal chef who has worked in many celebrated restaurants; he especially enjoys teaching in small settings.


Soups and Quick Breads
Thursday, Oct. 20, 6 to 8:30 pm., $90
Learn to create delicious fall soups with a bread side. On the menu: chicken tortilla soup with cornbread, tomato/shrimp soup with pesto and cheese biscuits, beef barley soup with popovers. Bring a chef’s knife, an apron and take-home containers. Instructor Brenda Kieffer is a Culinary Institute of America certified chef and has extensive experience in catering, restaurants and teaching.

Local Bounty
Wednesday, Nov. 9, 10 am to 12:30 pm, $90
Chef John Blanchet will take you through some exciting cooking that focuses on the bounty of food provided by our local farmers and growers. Dishes will include slow-cooked chicken with herbs and autumn vegetable ragout, “rave reviewed” Kabocha squash soup and caramelized apple bread pudding.

Young Chef Challenge
Saturday, Oct. 15, 2 to 4 pm, $45
Saturday, Nov. 12, 2 to 4 pm, $45
The Wayne Art Center’s version of the popular television show “Chopped.” You, too, can be a culinary star when you team up for a cooking battle. Chef Kim Honig will give each group a basket of four mystery ingredients and some suggested recipes to prepare in one hour. Then, everyone will choose their favorites and a winner! Ages 10 and up.


Culinary Workshop: Favorite Fall Treats
Saturday, Oct. 29, 2-4 pm, $45
Join chef Kim Honig to make favorite fall treats, including caramel and chocolate dipped apples, hot cider and pear crisp. Ages 10 and up.


Baking 101
Tuesday, Nov. 1, 6-8 pm, $45
Learn to bake your favorite treats from scratch, including decorated butter cookies, chocolate chip cookies, brownies and blondies, cupcakes, muffins and more. Ages 10 and up.


Sweets and Poetry for Girls
Tuesday, Nov. 15, 6 to 7:30 pm, $40
This expressive class will explore poetry and create luscious petite sweets related to the poem or its region of origin. Chef Chiwishi Joy Abney and the class will delve into various food-related writings, such as “Ode to a Lemon,” by Pablo Neruda. Ages 9 and up.
