Devon hat Day winners 2014

Every year, iIlook forward to Ladies hat Day at the Devon Horse show.  I go very early, set up my easel out of the way and try my hardest to capture the magnificent array of beautiful women in gorgeous hats.  Many are handmade with matching attire literally from head to toe.  My personal favorite is the woman in the blue Audrey Hepburn style  ensemble.  Tiffany Arey, a winner this  year, is not only beautiful but talented and very sweet.   There are also some creations that are so fun, it makes for an event that I have come to relish.  As an artist the cacophony of colors, shapes and textures makes bells go off in my head.  It is a race and a tug of war between trying to get the gestures down on canvas ,and taking pictures to work from later. The paintings have become a part of my professional portfolio and I have based many fine art pieces on the work I have done at Devon Hat Day.
