Fake Roof Repair Man Attempts To Scam Elderly Radnor Woman: Police

Radnor, PA -- A person pretending to be a roof repairman targeted an elderly Radnor woman last week, and now local police are warning others to be watchful.

According to police, around 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 21, a white man in his 60s knocked on the woman’s door and said he was there to fix the roof.

The victim told police the man showed her a silver badge and said he had authority to work in the township.

“She told the man she did not call anyone and he told her she had a leak in her closet upstairs. Then they went upstairs where he showed her in a bedroom closet water on the floor and told her that her roof was leaking,” according to information from police.

The woman told police the man was on a cell phone the entire time he was there, talking to a man he claimed to be his boss. He told the woman he needed to repair her roof and that it would cost $1,600.

Police offered the following description of the man: white, in his 60s with white thinning hair, clean shaven about 5’9” with a stocky build. He was wearing khakis, a jacket, and shoes.
