GSK Science in the Summer™

School may be out, but science is
in! GSK Science in the Summer™ brings genetics to elementary students at
Delaware County libraries

 - Registration is underway, space is
limited




Delaware
County students entering second through sixth grade are invited to register and
attend GSK Science in the Summer™. This free, fun experiment-oriented course is
taught by certified teachers to groups of 16 students in two age groups:
children entering second and third grades (Level I), and children entering
fourth through sixth grades (Level II). GSK Science in the Summer™ is sponsored
by GSK in partnership with The Franklin Institute and local libraries.



 Course Description: GSK Science in the Summer™ program will introduce Delaware County students to the
wonders of Genetics with interesting investigations that teach about human
chromosomes and genes. Students will build a cell, extract DNA from a
strawberry, examine their fingerprints, and construct a DNA molecule.

In Delaware
County, GSK Science in the Summer™ consists of four one-hour sessions that
occur across four days. Class times are Level I: 10:00-11:00 am or 1:00-2:00
pm, and Level II: 11:00 am-noon or 2:00-3:00 pm, unless otherwise noted.
Delaware County also offers two two-hour sessions that occur across two days.
These two-day sessions are held from 10:00 am-noon (Level I) and 1:00-3:00 pm
(Level II).

Now in its
28th year, GSK Science in the Summer™ opens young minds to the world
of science and fosters a life-long appreciation of learning. More than 120,000
students from the Greater Philadelphia Area have participated in GSK Science in
the Summer™ since its inception.

Registration Information: Parents
must register in person at the library they wish their child to attend.
Students are selected to participate through a lottery.
