INTRODUCTION TO WOODCUT: BLACK AND WHITE AT THE WAYNE ART CENTER

Try your hand at the unique world of woodcut, the earliest, simplest, yet most enduring of printmaking techniques. Students will be guided through the process of creating a simplified drawing to help create a print. Then they will learn how to expressively carve the drawn design with knives, blades and gauges. Finally, students will print woodblocks by hand, without the use of a press, so that prints can be made at home or in the studio.

Woodblocks, paper and ink will be provided by the instructor.
