List Of Philly Area Public Servants Dead From COVID Grows

Teachers, police officers, and firefighters are bearing the brunt of the coronavirus in the Philadelphia region after numerous losses.

SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — The coronavirus pandemic has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives in the United States, and many of those deaths are among first responders and public servants.

In the Philadelphia region, the virus has taken the lives of many who dedicated their lives to helping others.

Those lost include police officers, firefighters, and educators.

In Philadelphia, several members of the Philadelphia Police Department lost battled with the virus. They include Lt. Jimmy Walker, Ofc. Tab Ali, Cpt. Frank Milillo, and Ofc. Erin Tokley.

Outside the city, others have succumbed to the virus.

Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Dung X. Martinez died in late October at 57 years old. He served Troop T in King of Prussia and is survived by a wife and two children.

In Chester County, Westtown-East Goshen Police Officer Josh Micun passed away at just 37 years old. Micun leaves behind his wife Amanda and two children, Hayden, 16, and Sophia, 10.

Haverford Township Police Sgt. Kevin Redding, 52, died from complications due to the virus. A 27-year veteran of the force, he survived by his wife Donna, son Kevin Redding Jr., daughter Katie, and numerous other family members.

Montgomery County saw several public servant deaths related to the virus.

Royersford Fire Department firefighter Michael Lessar, 51, died in late December from the virus. He left behind a wife and son.

Educators in Montgomery County also lost their lives to the virus.

Colonial Elementary School teacher aide Brittany Lauderback died earlier this month. She was 33 years old and leaves behind a husband, Matt Lauderback.

And a longtime teacher in the North Penn School District also died from the virus in January. Pennfield Middle School teacher Andrew G. Jenkins, 47, died on Christmas Day due to the virus. He taught at the school for 15 years and is survived by fiancé Andrea Buckno, as well as a brother, sister, nieces and his 8-year-old Newfoundland, Reagan.
