A Radnor High School Junior was recently honored for her contributions to civic engagement and being a leader in her community.

According to the Radnor Township School District, junior Macie Plotkin was named the winner of Widener University's High School Leadership Award.

The award is given to students in the Philadelphia area who "stand up for what is right, address a wrong and make a difference in their communities or schools," the district said.

As for Plotkin, the district said has shown leadership in the community by joining the leadership committee of SpeakUp!, an evening program that brings parents, students and educators together to discuss difficult topics affecting teens and their mental health.

"Widener University is committed to developing leaders with strong character who become engaged citizens. Through the High School Leadership Awards, we get the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the region's best and brightest future leaders. It is my pleasure to give each student, including Macie, this well-deserved honor"

Winners like Plotkin were treated to a celebratory breakfast at the National Constitution Center on March 23 and have been invited to a leadership conference at Widener University set for the fall this year, the district said.

In addition, winners who enroll at Widener University for undergraduate studies receive a scholarship of $20,000 over four years, according to the district.

"NBC10 is proud to recognize this year's group of students who represent the leaders of tomorrow," said Ric Harris, President and General Manager of NBC10 and Telemundo62, in a statement. "These remarkable individuals from across the region have achieved academic excellence while demonstrating integrity and exceptional character for the benefit of their communities."

The Widener University High School Leadership Award is in its sixth year, the district said.
