Radnor Police Offer Tips To Prevent Mail Theft

Police issued the tips after seeing an uptick in thefts from residential mailboxes, often of personal checks that are altered then cashed.

RADNOR TOWNSHIP, PA — As mail thefts seem to continue across Radnor Township, police are offering residents tips on how to avoid becoming a victim.

Police issued a document outlining what residents can do to keep their mail safe.

Below are some way residents can strengthen their mailbox security:

  • Hand your outgoing mail to your Postal Carrier or take to Post Office directly for delivery
  • Do not leave your mail inside the mailbox overnight
  • If applicable, pay bills online
  • If you are expecting and did not receive a check, or other valuable property, contact the issuing agency immediately for verification
  • Do not send cash in the mail
  • Place a security camera nearby the mailbox

Police said in many mail theft cases, personal checks often made out to pay a bill are stolen. Those checks are then altered and fraudulently cashed.

Recent thefts have occurred on Boxwood, Upper Gulph, Yorkshire, Newtown, Ravencliff, and Ridgewood roads, as well as Brookside Avenue.
