RADNOR TOWNSHIP, PA – The same day Easttown Township Police warned of an extortion scam, Radnor Township Police said a resident got an email from someone claiming to be a "hit man" who demanded the victim pay up or be killed.
A township resident got the email on Sunday, Dec. 10, police said.
Police said Tuesday night that their detectives and the FBI's Newtown Square Field Office are working on the case to figure out where the message came from.
"I've got an order to kill you, because your activity causes an inconvenience to a particular person," the email reads. The full email is posted below.
The email goes on to say the "hit" won't be executed if the victim pays up in bitcoin, a digital form of currency, and that if the victim paid they would be given information the person who ordered the hit.
Radnor Police said they are unaware of any connection with the scam reported by Easttown Township.
"These emails normal generate from overseas domains and are sent out by the thousands, hoping to prey on a small percentage of people who may send the money," police said. "This is the first case of this particular type of email scam that has been seen by the Radnor Police."
Police said one thing to look out for in a scam such as this is the email address will feature "www" after the at symbol. The scam email address will look something like this: Example@www.Example.com
The Radnor Police are asking that any residents who receive these types of emails notify police immediately by dialing 911.
