Details Of Easttown Blackmail Scam Letter Released
The extortion letter demanded $2,500 to keep a "secret" the victim's wife, but never describes the alleged secret. Don't fall for this scam.

EASTTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA – After police in Easttown Township warned residents of a blackmail scam letter that was sent to a township resident, they provided Patch with a copy of the letter to help spread awareness and details of the scam.
The letter, which is posted in full below, demands $2,500 from the victim, saying they have information on a "secret" the victim kept from their wife, but does not explain what the alleged secret is.
Two options are laid out in the scam: don't pay up and have the "secret" leaked to family and friends or pony up the money.

Conveniently, the letter says measure have been taken to ensure the sender's anonymity should the victim report the extortion to police.
Then the letter says $2,500 in bitcoin, a digital currency, must be paid to keep the "secret" hush and goes on to explain how to deposit the bitcoin.

Easttown Police said anyone who receives such a letter, email, or call should immediately contact police.
Under no circumstances should the public give the blackmailers social security numbers, bank account information, or wire them any money, police said.
Nearby in Radnor Township, a resident received an email saying there was a "hit" put out on the victim and demanded bitcoin payment as well.
