Uber Driver Charged With Raping Villanova Student

VILLANOVA, PA — Authorities in Delaware County have charged an Uber driver with rape and related crimes after they said he sexually assaulted a Villanova student in her dorm room.

Mirvan Dinler, 26, of Trappe, was charged with rape, sexual assault, indecent assault of a substantially impaired person, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, recklessly endangering another person, and more crimes, court records show.

Patch last month reported the university said the incident happened inside a residence hall overnight Sept. 13 to Sept. 14.

Authorities said the victim ordered an Uber from Philadelphia back to the university after feeling ill following the consumption of several alcoholic beverages on an empty stomach.

The driver, identified as Dinler, is accused of following the victim into her room in Hovanian Hall after dropping her off at the university.

After going in her room, Dinler raped the student and forced her to perform oral sex, authorities said. Authorities also allege he used the victim's phone to send $150 to someone via Venmo.

Dinler was taken into custody Friday, according to authorities. He has also been banned from the university.

Dinler is being held after failing to post 10 percent of $250,000 bail. He is scheduled for an Oct. 17 preliminary hearing.
