Wayne Post Office Losing Retail Clerk

Three full-time sales associates will be reduced to two starting next week.

It’s no secret that the United State Postal Service has money problems.

Seven total clerks from Wayne will be relocated or reassigned as part of the cost-cutting effort, said Cathy Yarosky, a communications specialist for USPS.

“Since 2006 have had a huge decline in first class mail. That, with recession, has made financial situation very, very challenging,” Yarosky said. “As a result we have to really tighten our belts.”

Nationwide the postal service is moving people around “to maximize our resources,” she said. But Yarosky said that customer service is still the top priority.

“That’s our core mission, that’s what we do every day,” she said. “We will make certain while moving people around we are still maintaining customer service. It’s still business as usual.”

But will it be “business as usual” with one fewer retail clerk?

St. Davids resident Ted Pollard says no.

“The reduction in front desk staff at the Wayne post office will be a real burden to the public. Not only will the lines be longer, but parking will be even more difficult, and, instead of having to put in 25 cents for 15 minutes, customers will need to put in 50 cents due to the longer wait time,” Pollard said of the change.

So, what familiar faces will be gone from the desk?

There was no official confirmation, but sources told Radnor Patch that Friday, Aug. 9 will be the last day on the desk for sales associates Kim and Jim (last names are not listed on employee tags). Anne Marie will stay in place and be joined by Pat Sebastian, who came to the Wayne office

Narberth and Haverford post offices are staying put, but their carriers are moving.
