22nd Street In Philadelphia Closing For Bridge Demolition

PHILADELPHIA – 22nd Street in Philadelphia is scheduled to be closed and detoured this weekend for bridge demolition, according to PennDOT.

PennDOT said 22nd Street is scheduled to be closed between Arch and Market streets from 6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12 through 6 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15.

During the weekend closure, motorists will be directed to use Market Street, 20th Street and Arch Street to circumvent the closure.

The work is part of a project to rehabilitate three bridges on JFK Boulevard over 21st, 22nd and 23rd streets, PennDOT said.

The eastbound lanes of JFK Boulevard have been closed since the project began in late January of this year, according to PennDOT.

Eastbound JFK Boulevard motorists will continue to be detoured over Schuylkill Avenue, 30th Street, Market Street and 20th Street.

The eastbound lanes will remain closed through the completion of construction, which is scheduled for August 2018.

This project is a follow-up to the structural improvements made from 2007 to 2009 when PennDOT rehabilitated the JFK Boulevard bridge over the Schuylkill River under a $17.9 million project.
