The Ballad of Trayvon Martin is a poetic docudrama with music inspired by events surrounding the death of teenager Trayvon Martin on February 26, 2012, which took place in Sanford, Florida. Martin was shot and killed by neighbourhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman who was acquitted of murder based on Florida’s highly controversial Stand Your Ground Law. The play documents the last seven hours of Trayvon’s life, his legacy and his role in the Black Lives Matter Movement.
