Kendrick Rec. Center Playground
Kendrick Rec. Center is another area resource I need to tap into. In the meantime, my family will have fun at the great playground.
The Kendrick Recreation Center on Ridge Ave is another resource I really have yet to tap into. We used to live closer, but only ever visited when my husband played in a charity softball game there. We never even went to the carnival. I wanted to pick up the pool schedule, so I took the boys to the playground. I was lost in watching not only the boys having fun on the playground, but also in watching the softball games and dodge ball games. So much so, I never did go into the building to pick up the pool schedule or to see what else I could get my family involved in.
The playground was a lot of fun. The smaller playset was nice. There were at least four different ladders, slides, and had some fun decorations on it. However, once my kids saw the larger set, they wanted nothing to do with the smaller set. The larger set was quite nice. There were at least six different climbing ladders, three slides, a tube to crawl through, a bridge and lots of room to run around. The boys had a fabulous time! There were also monkey bars that the kids enjoyed.
That was all the equipment, though. The swings were gone, which disappointed me, but the boys didn’t seem to miss them.
I was also surprised how much graffiti was on the equipment. There wasn’t too much that was dirty/overly offensive, but there was still more here than at other playgrounds we’ve visited this summer. There were some older kids hanging out on the smaller play set, which may be another reason my kids chose not to play there. The older kids (teens) looked like they may have just come from swimming or from another Kendrick activity and they didn’t care to move when they saw age appropriate kids trying to play. They weren’t bad kids and they weren’t misbehaving, they just didn’t want to move. Again, my kids had a blast on the other set so I’m not sure how much they were bothered.

We visited around dinner time, so the playground had lots of shade. There was also off street parking behind the building - a first for the city playgrounds we’ve visited this summer. I’m looking forward to going back to see what other kinds of things my family can take advantage of here.
