Spring Cleaning

Spring Cleaning Done Naturally, Easy on the Wallet and Nose

Officially spring has been here for a few weeks now, but with beautiful sunny days like yesterday and today (here in Philadelphia anyway) if finally feels like spring. I couldn’t wait to throw open the windows, and let some of that goodness inside. With the fresh air and sunshine as our motivators, we all feel a bit of that urge to purge and to clean up this time of year. However, if we are using toxic products it pretty much counteracts the freshness we bring inside. Natural cleaning doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Yes, there are great products out there, but you can make your own at home very easily.

We need to think simple and old school. I bet if we asked our great grandmothers, they would confirm that things like vinegar, baking soda, salt, and lemons are great everyday cleaners.  Do a web search for “make your own natural cleaners” and you will see what I mean. (Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils like lavendar if you want to get fancy, but certainly not needed) I used the image above because that’s how I like to envision my cleaning…as if I’m spreading some of nature’s goodies around as I wipe off dust and grime.

I’m not going to give any specific recipes, as what you mix up depends what you are looking to tackle on the cleaning list. However, I promise  that if you look at many items you are likely to already have in your cupboard in a new way, your nose and head (if those strong “Regular” cleaners knock you out like they do me) will thank you. Besides being environmentally and wallet friendly, the extra bonus is that cleaning this way won’t harm the kiddos and pets!
