UPDATE: Man Admits To Accidental Shooting Of 4-Year-Old: Cops

A 4-year-old girl was shot and killed Saturday. The suspect initially told police her 5-year-old sibling accidentally did it.

A 4-year-old girl was shot and killed Saturday in what is being described as an accidental shooting, according to police.

The suspect, the girl's mother's boyfriend, told police he accidentally shot her, according to a report by NBC10. The man initially told police her 5-year-old sibling did it.

The shooting occurred inside a home on the 200 block of E. Mayfield Street in Philadelphia at 2:25 p.m. Saturday. Charges are pending. The identity of the man and the girl have not been released.

The girl was struck once in the face and died from her injuries. The mother's boyfriend fled the scene after the shooting, but later turned himself in and was questioned by investigators, according to NBC10 sources.

"She was full of life," Crystal Dougherty, a family friend, told the station. "She was always willing to help. She was a great big sister to her little brother."

The neighbors tell 6ABC say the mom was protective of her children, only letting them play in the backyard because she was afraid of the crime on the street, according to the report.
