DNC Tours Philly as Part of 2016 Convention Selection Process

In June, Philadelphia was selected one of six finalists to host the 2016 convention

A committee tasked with selecting the host of the Democratic presidential convention in 2016 is currently touring Philadelphia.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, members of the Democratic National Committee are on a two-day tour of the city.

In June, Philadelphia was selected one of six finalists to host the convention. Also in the running are Birmingham, Cleveland, Columbus, Brooklyn and Phoenix.

The Inquirer reported that on Wednesday and Thursday, landmark locations around the city will be lit up in red, white and blue and Love Park’s fountain will have blue water.

Former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell is chairing a nonprofit group that is raising $50 million to host the convention at the city’s Wells Fargo Center.

Philadelphia, a historically Democratic city, has not hosted a Democratic National Convention since 1948, Philadelphia Magazine said. The city hosted the Republican National Convention in 2000.

The winning city will not be announced until next year.
