NCA Community Picnic

The Northwest Christian Alliance (NCA) will conclude its seventh annual “Sunset with the Son” outdoor worship series with a community picnic at Gorgas Park this Sunday beginning at 4pm.

 The festivities will begin with a variety of children’s games, run by members of Ridge Ave. United Methodist Church, which are designed to both stimulate appetite and reduce energy levels.

During this time parents can have produced, free of charge, an “Amber Alert” CD of their children courtesy of New York Life Insurance Company as part of its Child ID Safety
Program. The CD contains important information of each child including name and address, photograph, fingerprints, voice print, physical description, distinguishing marks, medical alerts, and emergency contact information. Children must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian to have an ID made.

By 4:30 the grills will be cranking out basic picnic fare, manned by the men’s Bible study group from the recently closed St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic
Church.  Folks can enjoy burgers, hot dogs and soft drinks beneath the shade trees which have made Gorgas Park a
magnet for summertime leisure.

The autumn lineup of NCA events includes a Community Praise and Prayer Night on Sept. 23 hosted by Ridge Ave. UMC; and an Oct. 6 Men’s Breakfast, also at Ridge Ave. UMC, which will feature Deputy Police Commissioner Richard Ross as guest speaker.
