MANAYUNK -- Ever wondered about that old house in between granite walls and forest along a windy stretch of Lincoln Drive near Wissahickon Park?

Friends of the Wissahickon provided a little history Thursday on the mysterious old white house:

In case you drive by this building every day, twice a day, and never know what it is, meet Wissahickon Hall. Henry Lippen started construction in 1849 and offered a cable ferry service to cross the river for 5 cents. After being extensively repaired by the Works Progress Administration, it was inhabited by the 92nd police district. Now it hosts (the Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation) on the second floor.
