Ex Philly Cop Sexually Assaulted Witnesses, Suspects: Authorities

The 52-year-old former homicide detective allegedly intimidated and groomed male suspects and witnesses into sexual encounters.

PHILADELPHIA — A former Philadelphia Police Homicide Detective was charged by a grand jury for allegedly sexually assaulting witnesses and suspects over the course of several years, according to authorities.

Philip Nordo — who was fired from the force in 2017 after allegations of him improperly paying a witness and fraternizing with people tied to criminal conduct — faces 22 charges, including felony rape, felony institutional sexual assault, stalking, theft by deception, and more, the indictment shows.

Nordo, 52, was arrested Tuesday morning and has an arraignment slated for later in the day.

The indictment alleges he used his role as a police officer to intimidate and groom male suspects and witnesses into sexual encounters. These incidents began in 2005, according to the indictment.

He is also accused of fraudulently diverting up to $20,000 in funds from the Mayor’s Office’s Crime Reward Program to individuals and victims of his choosing, according to the indictment.
