Friends of the Wissahickon Gets More Than $1M For Signage, Trail Construction

Good news for fans of Wissahickon Park and its labyrinthine trails.

Governor Wolf has announced a series of investments to support statewide economic development and infrastructure efforts, and several projects in the local area will be impacted.

The projects are funded through the state's Commonwealth Financing Authority, which approved 418 projects totaling $152,414,748 of support on July 1.

“The projects approved today through the Commonwealth Financing Authority are critical to the economic vitality of the state,” Governor Wolf said in a statement. “These impactful investments will support significant community and economic improvements and spark revitalization in Pennsylvania’s communities.”

Local nonprofit Friends of the Wissahickon will receive $250,000 to improve trail signage throughout the park.

Improvements for the Valley Green Road Pedestrian Trail will also be funded with $225,000 from the state.

Other funded projects include $100,000 for streambank stabilization near Mt. Airy Avenue, $271,000 for stormwater channel remediation, and $150,000 to stabilize and reduce sediment at Valley Green.
