Funds For Memorial Garden Raised In Honor Of Roxborough Native, Elementary Teacher

Kitty Spera grew up in Roxborough, attended Chestnut Hill College, and worked at Shawmont Elementary. She died of breast cancer last year.

ROXBOROUGH, PA -- Roxborough native and Shawmont Elementary School teacher Kitty Spera passed away last year after a battle with breast cancer.

Now, to honor her legacy and her lifelong passion and devotion to the Roxborough area, a fundraiser has been launched to create a memorial garden in her honor.

"We would like to add a plaque and a memorial bench where our students and families can enjoy the garden, fresh air, and at the same time remember what a wonderful person Mrs. Spera was," wrote Janet Cice McHale, who started the GoFundMe page.
