Gov. Wolf Calls On Kathleen Kane To Step Down
The governor is calling on Attorney General Kathleen Kane to step down after criminal charges against her were announced Thursday.

Governor Tom Wolf called on Attorney General Kathleen Kane to step down after criminal charges against her were announced Thursday.
Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman announced during a Thursday morning press conference that Kane would be charged for releasing information from a grand jury and then lying about it.
Kane, 49, was not arrested on Thursday “as a courtesy,” Ferman said, because she lives out of town. But she is expected to turn herself in within the next two days.

During a public event at East Stroudsburg Elementary School, Governor Wolf commented on the charges.
“I am calling on her to step aside, step down as attorney general, because I think she cannot do what she has to do as the top law enforcement officer in Pennsylvania while she’s facing these serious charges,” the governor said.

Kane maintained her innocence, stating that she was “very disappointed” in the charges that were filed, and that she would vigorously defend herself.
The Democratic attorney general is being charged with obstruction of the administration of law, official oppression, conspiracy, false swearing, and perjury, among other charges.
“She is entitled to her day in court. She is entitled to due process under our system of government and law, and she will have time to defend herself, and I think she needs to do that,” Wolf said.
