Honoring Roxborough and Manayunk Student Award Recipients

Colleges throughout the area have begun their commencement exercises. So residents raised in Roxborough and Manayunk are graduating from college, receiving awards, or, at minimum, completing their semesters.

Chestnut Hill College—Philadelphia

• Leanna Ashcom, an early education major, was inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society.

Lock Haven University—Lock Haven, PA

• Victoria R. Hummel received the Bachelor of Arts degree.

Millersville University—Millersville, PA

• Stephanie Jean Roberts graduated earning a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary and special education.
• Joseph Wright graduated earning a Bachelor of Science degree in biology.
• Matthias Robert Miziorko completed a Master of Science degree in emergency management.
• Mary E. Paul, a member of the women's volleyball team, received the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete Award.

St. Augustine College—Raleigh, NC

• Anthony Purnell won second place in the inaugural Donna Jackson Trailblazer Video PSA Awards. Purnell, a rising senior in the Theater and Film program, won for a video on water preservation education.

St. Joseph's Univeristy—Philadelphia

• Kaitlin Kelly, a mathematics major, will work with Paul Klingsberg, Ph.D., in the school's summer scholars program on the research topic, "Encrypting and Coding." She received a stipend and free housing for the program.

University of Scranton—Scranton, PA

• Caitlin Kennedy, an occupational therapy major, was named to the National Freshmen Honor Society.
• Christine McBride, a senior communication major, was inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu, the national honor society for students in Jesuit colleges and universities.

Villanova University—Villanova

• Elyssa Strickler was named to the Dean's List for the fall 2011 semester. Strickler is enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
