Kendrick Advisory Council Back

Find out exactly what the council is hoping to do at the recreation center.

The Kendrick Recreation Center Advisory Council was recently re-formed to address the deteriorating conditions at the center.

"We've got people to the table and this is a chance to give the community a voice," Bill Malizia said at the council's meeting Thursday. "Anyone who cares about or uses the facility can come and voice their opinion.

The council will also represent the rec center in ways that employees, like Malizia, cannot such as securing certain grants.

The meeting was attended by interested residents, business owners, and people who run programs or attend programs at the center.

"The people around this table can get things done," longtime resident Brian Morris said. "This place has always been about giving kids some guidance."

Despite the rec's poor conditions, it is the third or fourth in the city in regards to the level of programming, Malizia said.

The director also reminded meeting attendees that nothing will be done if particular programs are vying for personal interests.

"We have to stay focused on the whole project," he said. "We're not going to go anywhere if we're fighting or have specific agendas."
