Macbeth in Manayunk: Woman Stars In Title Role Of New Production

MANAYUNK -- Manayunk's Venice Island will host a new theater company's iteration of Shakespeare's classic Macbeth.

The Shoe Box Co. will play from May 19 to 22 at 8 p.m.:

Murder is just business in this production of Shakespeare's classic tragedy. Macbeth is a high-ranking employee at a successful corporation, but when three Witches insist that she will rise to the position of CEO, she must decide whether she is willing to snatch that calling for herself. Shoebox Company's "Macbeth" takes this thrilling story of twisted ambition and smashes it into the cutthroat world of American capitalism. How does life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness lead to death, depravity, and the pursuit of power?

A woman, Caitlin Collins, will play Macbeth, lending a new interpretation of the ancient tale.

Tickets are $17 in advance and $20 at the door, and $15 for students and artists.
