Man Bitten By Pet Sidewinder Rattlesnake In Philadelphia: Report

The man could reportedly lose his arm after being bitten by his pet rattlesnake.

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- A Philadelphia man was bitten by his pet rattlesnake on Sunday and could lose his arm, according to a report.

The sidewinder horned rattlesnake, native to the desert regions of the southwest, bit its owner in his home on the 3500 block of Wellington Street, according to Philly.com.

The man has been taken to the hospital.

Side effects of rattlesnake bites vary widely depending on the health and age of the person bitten, the location of the bite, and amount of venom delivered in the bite.

They can include loss of tissue, massive swelling, and intense pain.

Although rattlesnake bites can lead to death, that is rare in healthy adults.

Police reported the bite to the Philadelphia Animal Care and Control Team.
