Man Dies After Jumping In Wissahickon Creek While Fleeing Police

The man had a warrant for his arrest in New Jersey and jumped into the creek to elude Philadelphia Police. He was later found dead.

PHILADELPHIA – A man who was wanted in New Jersey for eluding police and resisting arrest died after jumping into Wissahickon Creek in an attempt to flee a traffic stop in Philadelphia Wednesday, according to reports.

NBC10 reports the 29-year-old man, whose identity has yet to be released, was stopped while driving a commercial vehicle on Lincoln Drive off-ramp to Ridge Avenue at about 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Police learned of his arrest warrant out of New Jersey after running his information, according to CBS Philadelphia.

The man then got out of the vehicle and jumped into the creek.

Action News reports his body was found in about 12 feet of water.

He was pronounced dead at 8:20 p.m.
