Man Shot In Manayunk Traffic Incident, Charges Filed

MANAYUNK, PHILADELPHIA — Charged have been filed after authorities said a man shot another man Saturday night in Manayunk during a traffic incident.

Court records show Matthew Lorusso, 32, of Philadelphia, is charged with aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person.

The incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on the 3900 block of Manayunk Avenue.

According to Action News, a 37-year-old man in a van passed the vehicle driven by Lorusso, who had his wife and child in their Jeep.

Lorusso followed the van out of concern the driver was impaired or in distress, and eventually saw it crash on Manayunk Avenue.

Fox 29 reports the van's driver then got out, came up to the Lorusso's vehicle, and punched the window.

Lorusso tried to leave the area, but was concerned he might strike the man, and the man kept advancing toward the family's vehicle, according to NBC10.

Lorusso, who has a license to carry a firearm, shot the driver three times, after the man did not back off when Lorusso told him to.

The van's driver was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition, both outlets report.

Lorusso was released on $50,000 unsecured bail and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 20, court records show.
