Manayunk DUI Driver Who Hit Cop With Car Sentenced

Colin Murphy was driving drunk last summer when he struck a police officer who was conducting a traffic stop on Main Street in Manayunk.

MANAYUNK, PHILADELPHIA – A man who was driving drunk and struck a police officer with a vehicle in Manayunk last year was sentenced to prison time on Monday, Oct. 23, according to court documents.

Colin Murphy, 22, of Schwenksville, was ordered to serve 11 and a half to 23 months prison time with a consecutive five-year reporting probation period.

He may also serve some of his sentence under house arrest.

Murphy was arrested Aug. 25, 2016 after striking a police sergeant who was conducting a traffic stop on Main Street in Manayunk at about 1 a.m.

A 2008 Toyota Rav 4 driven by Murphy heading south on Main Street hit the officer, the patrol car, and then left the scene.

The sergeant was knocked 15 feet in the air and his shoes were knocked off by the impact.

Murphy was arrested shortly afterwards in Roxborough.

The sergeant suffered neck, shoulder, knee, and elbow injuries but recovered.
