Manayunk Friends, Laid-off Teachers Debut Play at Adrienne

Long-time friends and Manayunk residents Joshua Levin and David Orlansky will debut their musical Awesome Alliteration: The Magical Musical Thursday night at a Rittenhouse Square theater.

Formerly both teachers with the School District of Philadelphia, Levin and Orlansky were laid off. In a Philadelphia Inquirer article, the two said bad news was ultimately good, as it allowed them the free time to finish and produce their show, which opens at the Adrienne Theater (2030 Sansom St.) at 7:30 p.m. and runs through Sunday. 

In a blurb on their production company BetaMale Productions' website, you get a taste for their style and sense of humor: "World Hunger. Illiteracy. Avian Flu. All deeply serious issues. All issues Dave Orlansky and Josh Levin don’t think about. Not because they don’t care. Although they don’t. But they’ve been pretty busy writing a musical called Awesome Alliteration: The Magical Musical."
