Missing NJ Uber Driver Found Dead In Philadelphia: Police

PHILADELPHIA — A 52-year-old New Jersey man who was an Uber driver was found dead in Philadelphia after going missing in late February, according to police.

Philadelphia Police said James Benjamin Carter Jr., of Willingboro, New Jersey, was found dead outside 30th Street Station Tuesday.

Carter was located at 30th Street Station, 2955 Market St., after police were called to the area for a hospital case at 1:25 p.m. March 5.

Police said Carter was found deceased in the driver seat of his vehicle.

He was pronounced dead 1:33 p.m.

Police said Carter’s death does not appear suspicious.

Carter was last seen on the unit block of Paddock Lane in Willingboro by his adult son at about 3 p.m. Feb. 25 as Carter was leaving to driver for Uber.

Philadelphia Police said Uber was contacted and was informed that Carter had successfully completed a drop off on the 4900 block of Spruce Street in Philadelphia at 5:17 p.m. on Feb. 27, 2019.

Carter reportedly deactivated the Uber app on his phone moments later.

Carter had a cell phone, however, police said it appears it was either turned off or its battery died.

He was a diabetic, but not insulin dependent. Police said he was a dialysis patient but had not been going to his dialysis appointments.
