Philadelphia Declares March 14 'Meek Mill Day'
The Philly-born rapper has made headlines after being jailed for a probation violation and his contributions to criminal justice reform.

PHILADELPHIA — March 14 is officially "Meek Mill Day" in Philadelphia now.
The Philadelphia City Council voted Thursday to declare March 14 Meek Mill Day in honor of the Philadelphia-born rapper who has taken up criminal justice reform after being jailed on a probation violation.
According to CBS Philadelphia, his contributions to the music industry and criminal justice reform advocate landed him the honor.

"I'm trying to fight for the young kids who I've spent time with and sat in prison with for not even committing crime," the rapper, who's legal name is Robert Rihmeek Williams, said according to Fox 29.
Philadelphia City Council President Darrell Clarke and State Sen. Sharif Street made the announcement at Thursday's meeting, NBC10 reports.

The rapper was ordered to be released from prison immediately by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on Tuesday, April 24, 2018.
He was sentenced to two to four years imprisonment in November 2017 after violating his probation that was set in a 10-year-old drug and gun case by Common Pleas Judge Genece Brinkley.
His case garnered national attention from the political, athletic, and entertainment industry in addition to criminal justice reform advocates.
Mill's arresting officer was included on a list of unreliable officers issued by Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner's office recently, which the state Supreme Court cited in its decision.
