Philadelphia's 3-Day, Overnight Komen Walk Raises $2.1 Million

Participants hoofed it all the way from the Willow Grove Mall to the Navy Yard in Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Susan G. Komen Philadelphia 3-day event has been completed, and the results are in: $2.1 million raised.

According to the foundation, participants walked more than 60 miles throughout three days to raise the money to help fight breast cancer. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

These funds will go directly to breast cancer research and community outreach programs, organizers said. I

It's part of more than $66 million which has been raised in the Philadelphia area since the launch of the event in 2005.

“We could not accomplish this feat without our incredible participants,” said Carrie Stovall, Susan G. Komen Events Director in a statement. “The preparation and dedication of these walkers is inspiring and helps us get closer each day to eliminating this disease.”

750 participants spent the weekend walking through Philadelphia-area communities and camping in pink tents each night, supported by 275 crew members. They walked from the Willow Grove Park Mall early Friday and finished with closing ceremonies on Sunday at The Navy Yard.

The Komen event as a whole has raised more than $2.8 billion since 1982.
