Philadelphia's Nightly Curfew Ends After 8 Days

The city was under curfew for more than a week as civil unrest spread around the city, which led to looting, vandalism, and more.

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia officials Sunday said there will no longer be a curfew in place after issued curfews for eight days during civil unrest, which led to vandalism, looting, fires, and more.

Sunday marked the first day since Saturday, May 30 that the city was not under a nightly curfew.

Officials enacted the curfew as various areas of the city dealt with crimes such as looting and burglary, vandalism, fires, assault, and more.

As of Sunday, police made 494 arrests for curfew violations and failure to disperse, according to the police department. There have also been 236 looting and burglary arrests, as well as arrests for assault on police, theft, rioting, and more.

Additionally, the city lifted all vehicle restrictions in Center City.
