PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Police SWAT officer who was shot in the face by a homeowner while serving a warrant has been released from the hospital, police told Patch.
Officer Jaison Potts, a 49-year-old, 20-year veteran of the police department, has been sent home from Temple University Hospital to recover, according to police.

The homeowner, 59-year-old Ricardo Giddings, who shot Potts was not the target of the warrant and likely thought police officers knocking at the door in the early morning hours were burglars, police said.
After Giddings fired at police, police fired back, hitting and killing Giddings, and injuring his wife Joann Giddings, 67.

Rafi Johnson, the 20-year-old warrant target and grandson of the Giddings, was not in the home when the warrant was served but later turned himself over to police.
