DA Still Gathering Evidence In LeSean McCoy Investigation

"We're not going to rush because people are impatient," the DA said about the investigation into LeSean McCoy's night club incident.

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- Philadelphia District Attorney R. Seth Williams said on Friday that he would make a decision on charges in the LeSean McCoy night club incident only when “all the evidence” had been gathered.

“I’m only going to operate on one timeline: the timeline that ends when all the evidence is collected, has been reviewed, and I have made the decision to charge or not charge a case,” he said in a statement.

Former Eagles running back McCoy, along with three other NFL players, were allegedly involved in a brawl with two off-duty police officers at the Recess Lounge night club at about 2:45 a.m. on February 7.

The fight, which started over a bottle of champagne, landed the two cops, both 40-years-old, in the hospital. One of them suffered a possible skull fracture.

Surveillance footage at the scene captured McCoy and the others being kicked out of the club, while cell phone video footage of the fight clearly shows McCoy and the others taking swings at the cops with security tries to break the brawl up.

Williams added that he appreciates the public interest, but that people need to understand that legal issues take time.

“I understand that people are interested in the outcome of our investigation, but we’re not going to rush because people are impatient,” he said, citing his experience as a prosecutor as proof that he would follow through until justice is served.

“The people of Philadelphia elected me to charge the right people with the right crimes nothing more and nothing less,” he said. “My only goal is to get it right, not fast. The last thing we need is a rush to judgement.”

McCoy, who now plays for the Bills, is a Philadelphia native and the Eagles’ all-time franchise leading rusher.
