Philly Folksong Society Makes New Home In Roxborough

ROXBOROUGH, PA -- Roxborough has a new neighbor in town. The Philadelphia Folkson has relocated their headquarters to Ridge Avenue in the heart of Roxborough.

According to the Society, they had been at their existing headquarters on 7113 Emlen Street in the Allen Lane area since their opening in April of 1957. Executive Director Justin Nordell said that they decided to make the move because their former location was beginning to feel "less a place for community, and more a place of business.

"We have relocated to the community of Roxborough which has been so supportive of our organization and cannot wait to have our community as a part of their community," Nordell added. Their new home is located on 6139 Ridge Avenue.

The Folksong Society has roots in Roxborough, as they have performed in neighborhood events like the Roxborough Bike Race Block Party and Roxtoberfest.

In addition to performing, the Society's mission to "preserve the past, promote the present, and secure the future" of folk music through education and encouraging wide participation.
