Philly U To Merge With Jefferson: Reports

The merger will result in a "re-imagining" of education, officials reportedly said.

Philadelphia University and Thomas Jefferson University plan to merge their schools together in the coming months, according to reports.

“An integrated Philadelphia University and Thomas Jefferson University will allow us to re-imagine education,” Philadelphia University President Stephen Spinelli Jr. said, Montgomery News reports. “Central to our vision is to integrate two world-class models into a comprehensive university with preeminence in professional education.”

The merger would reportedly create the city’s fifth largest university, with around 7,500 students.

Officials discussed how the merger could create a “revolution,” citing changes that could be developed as alternatives to the undergraduate and graduate model of education, the report states.

The merger could provide a more continuous education, along with a more expansive view toward each school’s current specialties as they complement one another, according to the report.
