Powerball Increases To $500M; Where To Get Tickets In Manayunk

One Pennsylvania resident got lucky over the weekend. But not as lucky as someone may get Wednesday.

A Powerball ticket worth $2 million was sold in Erie County for the Saturday, Jan. 2 drawing.

And now, the jackpot is worth an estimated $500 million for Wednesday’s drawing. That’s a $100 million increase since Monday, due to impressive ticket sales.

The winning January 2 ticket was sold at Country Fair, 1810 Sassafras St., Erie. It correctly matched five of the five white balls but not the red Powerball. It was sold with the $1 Power Play option, which boosted the prize to $2 million instead of $1 million. The retailer will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

More than 136,800 other Powerball tickets won prizes of various amounts in Saturday’s drawing, lottery officials confirmed.

If you think 2016 could be the year you become a multi-millionaire, now’s the time to grab your tickets. The Powerball jackpot has rolled to an estimated annuity value of $400 million, or $244 million cash, for the Wednesday drawing.

To play the PowerBall, according to the Pennsylvania Lottery website, you play up to five panels on your Powerball playslip. On each panel, you select five numbers from 1 to 59 in the top grid, and select one number from 1 to 35 in the bottom grid. Or you can select the quick pick option to have your numbers randomly selected by the computer.

The jackpot is won by matching all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball and the prize money is either an annuitized prize paid out over 29 years (30 payments) or a lump sum payment. If the winner chooses the annuity, the annual payment will be increased each year by the percentage set out in the Powerball game rules.
