Roxborough 5k To Kick Off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Benefit Local Group
Online registration ends Sept. 30, but participants can register on race day for increased fee.

The non-profit breast cancer support organization Friends in Pink is holding an inaugural Ridge Run 5k race, walk, and kids fun run Oct. 2 to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The race begins and ends at the Northwest Corner of Gorgas Park – at the Ridge Avenue and Hermitage Street intersection – and runs down Ridge Avenue, loops at Osborn Street, then continues back up Ridge Avenue. Race time is 8 a.m.
The Bryn Mawr Racing Company will be professionally timing the race and results will be available at BrynMawrRacing.com after the race.

The event will feature awards for the top 1-3 overall finishers and top 1-3 in each age group, t-shirts, refreshments, water, and more. JD McGillicudy's will be serving pink mimosas and half priced appetizers after the race
Online registration ends at 11:59 p.m. Sept. 30 and the fee is $30 per person. Runners and walkers are able to register on race day, but the cost jumps to $35. Kids under 11 year old can be registered for $20. The kids fun run fee is $10 per family. Potential runners and walkers can also download a hard copy registration form or email FriendsInPink@mail.com for a form.

According to its website, Friends in Pink is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit group that is committed to raising funds for breast cancer patients in the Roxborough-Manayunk area. "Our mission is to assist with unexpected medical costs, copay’s, activities of daily living, transportation costs and other unexpected expenses that people have to deal with when coping with this diagnosis," the organization's website says. "All money raised stays in our community for those who live in 19127 and 19128."
