Roxborough Dog Park Memberships To Cost $100

After an unspecified incident closed the park recently, park officials are looking to make some changes in the popular park.

ROXBOROUGH, PHILADELPHIA – After a unspecified incident closed the popular Roxborough Dog Park on Sept. 7, the park's officials have made decisions on how to move forward, including new membership fees.

According to officials, the park will move to a members-only system as it moves forward after the incident, which has closed the park until planned improvements are completed.

Officials said on Facebook that there is an investigation regarding the incident and few details can be discussed.

Memberships will cost $100 and be good for one year. The cost will be put toward the park's insurance premium and planned improvements.

Those looking to become member can pay in full with a 10 percent discount and take on four hours of volunteering at the park; make quarterly payments of $25 and volunteer four hours at the park; and commit to 14 hours of volunteer time. The membership is good by the household, not by the pet or pet walker, according to officials.

Officials said they hope to have applications out by early October.

On Facebook, officials said the move to a members only system was approved in November by board members last year and that their timeline to implement the change and the incident happened to coincide.

"We are excited about the new upcoming improvements to the dog park," officials said. "We have already added more grass seed to the dog park, and fertilized it. We have added a rain barrel and working on above ground drainage."

Some of the improvements include opening a section for smaller dogs in addition to the other section, which will be for larger dogs.

"We are looking forward to really building a community here where everyone can be together and happy to have our best friends playing together," officials said. "The future is bright for the park!"
