Soon after Mike Paquin began dating his long-time girlfriend, he realized that Manayunk was much more than a place to live.
"People around here really dig branding themselves as someone from Manayunk," Paquin, a Roxborough resident, said. "It seems to go back for decades."
And that was the beginning of Yunker Stuff, a clothing line that focuses on Manayunk apparel.

"It was something that I have been thinking about for year, got close to doing and then stopped," he said.
But several months ago he decided to make the leap and start the clothing line that now includes three T-shirts, three hats and a hooded sweatshirt.

His first shirt idea came to him when he was eating a local pub.
"I was just looking at the Yuengling label and got the idea of Yunkling," Paquin said, adding that the neatest thing about the shirt is that people have to do a double take to notice that it isn't actually the beer label.
"Maybe I did it a little too well," he said.
Other shirts include a yellow tie-dye "It's Always Sunny in Manayunk" shirt and a 19127 shirt based on the old 90210 show.
"The response has been varied, but I've heard enough 'wow' that's great' to keep doing it," he said, adding that he hopes to have a functional website up for orders in the next week or so.
He is hopeful that the shirts could become good stocking stuffers or holiday presents.
"Shirts like this is about saying something," Paquin said. "This is a great way for them to say something."
Shirts can be purchased at or by e-mailing Paquin at mike@mikepaquin.com.
To Paquin, "Yunkers" are folks who lived in Manayunk and moved up the hill.
"They're good, decent people who have provide in where they live," he said. "They're local folks who want people to know that they're the original Yunkers and they're proud of that."
