Roxborough's 'Penn Beer' Donates $85K To Neighborhood Initiatives

It's part of an $850,000 pledge the local business made. The initiative has created businesses and jobs like The Foodery and Read & Eat.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – On Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 11:00 AM the new Penn Beer Sales & Service (Penn) will present the Roxborough Development Corporation (RDC) with a check for $85,000. The presentation will take place at Penn’s headquarters 401 Domino Lane Philadelphia.

This is the fourth installment of a $850,000 pledge from Penn that enables the RDC to engage in community economic development activities that increase economic opportunity and create permanent jobs in the Roxborough neighborhood of Philadelphia.

“The Roxborough Development Corporation is grateful to the Penn Beer Sales & Service Team and their CEO Matt Funchion,” says Roxborough Development Corporation Executive Director James Harry Calamia. “Penn Beer’s tax credit partnership with the RDC has allowed us to leverage dollars from foundations, corporations and individuals to bring new life and investment to Roxborough’s heart and hub, the Ridge Avenue Commercial Corridor.”

Penn and the RDC are one of the first and now longest lasting partnerships to take advantage of the City of Philadelphia’s Community Development Corporation (CDC) Tax Credit Program since its inception in 2002. Thursday’s donation will bring Penn’s total contribution to date to $1,340,000. The tax credit program has resulted in the redevelopment of real estate at 6148 Ridge Avenue, which is now the Foodery Roxborough, as well as 6156 Ridge Avenue, which is now Roxborough Read & Eat.

The RDC’s current redevelopment project through the tax credit program at 6168 Ridge Avenue will attract a food and beverage use to Roxborough’s Ridge Avenue Commercial Corridor. 6168 Ridge Avenue is adjacent to the site of the future Roxborough Pocket Park that was recently designed by Groundswell Design Group and will break ground this spring.
