SEPTA To Add Express Bus Service To Alleviate Regional Rail Backups

As its Silverliner V rail cars slowly come back into operation during one of the busiest seasons of the year, SEPTA is adding an express bus service to select stations around the region.

Officials said that the end of the vacation season and start of the school year will cause a bump in usage of already overtaxed Regional Rail lines. And even though the Silverliner V fleet is on its way back to full service, even a slight handicap can lead to overcrowding conditions and delays.

The weekday supplemental bus service will begin near the most crowded Regional Rail stations on Tuesday, September 6.

SEPTA added that the service will also offer more travel options and a lower priced fare choice for riders.

The Silverliner V fleet is expected to fully return to service by November 5.

Express bus stops will service the following locations:

• Chestnut Hill East Station Stop Location: Bethlehem Pike & Chestnut Hill Ave
• Chestnut Hill West Station Stop Location: Bethlehem Pike & Germantown Ave
• Wyndmoor & St Martins Stations Stop Location: Germantown & Willow Grove Aves
• Sedgwick Station Stop Location: Mt. Pleasant & Sprague
• Fern Rock Transportation Center Stop Location: 11th St & Nedro Ave (drop off/pick up)
• Fox Chase Station Stop Location: 440 Rhawn St
• Fern Rock Transportation Center Stop Location: 11th St & Nedro Ave (drop off/pick up)
• Jenkintown-Wyncote Station Stop Location: West Ave
• Elkins Park Station Stop Location: Harrison Ave (Station outbound parking lot)
• Fern Rock Transportation Center Stop Location: 11th St & Nedro Ave (drop off/pick up)
• Ivy Ridge Station Stop Location: 4910 Umbria Street
• Manayunk Station Stop Location: Main & Carson Sts
• Wissahickon Station Stop Location: Ridge Ave & Cresson St
• Suburban Station Stop Location: 17th & JFK (drop of/pickup)
• Swarthmore Station Stop Location: Inbound Platform side of Station
• AT&T Station Stop Location: 3600 S. Broad St (drop off) 3601 S Broad St at Route 4/17 stop (pick up)
