Sex Assault Suspect Charged With Vehicular Homicide: Philly Cops

Police said a man who was wanted for a 2018 sex assault tried to flee police then struck and killed a female pedestrian Tuesday afternoon.

PHILADELPHIA — A Philadelphia man who was wanted on sexual assault charges had been arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle and related crimes after a crash Tuesday afternoon.

Philadelphia Police said Raheem Geathers, 36, of Philadelphia, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, homicide by vehicle, and recklessly endangering another person. Additionally, Geathers is facing rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault, sexual assault, and indecent assault without consent of others in connection with a July 2018 incident, court records show.

The crash in question occurred at about 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28 on the 600 block of West Master Street, police said.

Two members of the Philadelphia Police Department saw a man, allegedly Geathers, who was wanted for a sexual assault, sitting in the driver's seat of a 2007 Blue Audi Q7 on Master Street, police said.

The officers approached the vehicle then the driver drove on the sidewalk to flee the officers, police said.

In fleeing, police said the driver struck an unattended 2009 Silver Ford Escape then hit a 63-year-old woman who was on sidewalk.

The woman was taken to Hahnemann Hospital in critical condition with severe head trauma and lacerations throughout the body, police said. On the way to Hahneman, the woman suffered cardiac arrest and subsequently died at 3:19 p.m.

After striking the woman, the driver got out of his vehicle and fled on foot, police said.

The driver was taken into custody following a short chase, police said.

Geathers is slated for preliminary hearings on June 12 and June 13, court records show.
