Speed Bumps On Main Street In Manayunk Target Of New Petition
A new Change.org petition is seeking to install speed bumps on the busy Manayunk thoroughfare, citing speeding vehicles and close calls.
MANAYUNK, PHILADELPHIA — Main Street in Manayunk is a busy, busy road. With vehicles using it as a thoroughfare through the neighborhood and countless people on its sidewalks, the street is always a buzz with traffic.
But those factors create safety issues, according to an online petition.
Alexandra Cohen launched a Change.org petition calling for the installation of speed bumps on the busy road.

"Recently, it has seen an increased number of motor vehicles traveling well over the 25 MPH speed limit resulting in collisions with pole lights, street planters, the facades of businesses, and way too many close calls for pedestrians crossing the street," Cohen wrote on the petition.
The petition, launched in October, says its goal is to make Manayunk a safe place.

"By adding speed bumps, we can significantly reduce the risks associated with speeding vehicles and create an environment where pedestrians, children, and pets can be safe," Cohen wrote.
As of Dec. 7, the petition has 110 signatures.
